The Newborn Nurse, Rachel Ramsey is here today to share about her services to moms and babies around Middle Tennessee! I needed her around when mine were babies!! Welcome to The Nashville Mom, Rachel!
I am a Nashville Native and I graduated in 2005 from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I have worked for 13 years as a Maternal-Neonatal Registered Nurse, and my clinical experience includes Labor and Delivery, postpartum, antepartum, well baby nursery, and NICU. I also taught as an adjunct professor in the MTSU College of Nursing, instructed nursery and postpartum clinicals, and was a guest lecturer on “The Normal Newborn”. I recently finished a great travel adventure, as a nanny on the road for 2 1/2 years for country music star, Jennifer Nettles, caring for, and taking care of her little boy. I traveled extensively with their family, lived on a tour bus, and split my time off the road between Nashville and New York City.
I developed the idea for The Newborn Nurse after years of discharging new moms home from the hospital and watching so many of them ask (jokingly, yet seriously) if they could bring the nursing staff home with them. Most of them still had questions regarding their baby, needed more lactation support, or simply needed more days of rest, recovery, and hands-on care. I began to brainstorm, research, and after many months of planning, I launched my baby business, The Newborn Nurse, in April of 2017. I knew we needed a service in Nashville for new families, staffed by experienced, professional RN’s, that could bridge the gap from the day of discharge from hospital or birth center, to a point at which a new mother feels more rested, confident, and more comfortable with her newborn baby.
The mission of our business is to provide support and encouragement to new moms, and to walk with them as they travel the journey of new motherhood. We provide any and every kind of support a new family would need including an in-home Baby 101 Newborn Education class, daytime or overnight postpartum doula care, lactation consultations, and over the phone support with any questions or concerns a family may have. Clients have booked anything from one shift, up to several months of care, and our services make great Baby Shower gifts from friends and family.
We are staffed by an incredible team of experienced and loving Mother-Baby Registered Nurses and IBCLC’s, and are medically trained, but holistically minded. We support ALL kinds of birth including home birth, hospital, or birth center, and all feeding preferences. We are connected with, and provide referrals to some incredible services in town, including resources for Postpartum Mood Disorders, Newborn Sleep Consultants, Maternal Nutrition Counselors, and more.
We hope to become an integral part of Nashville’s birth community, with the hopes and dreams of every new mother having all of the support they need after bringing home their new baby, and fully embracing and enjoying one of the most beautiful times in life.
