Friends, I am well into my third trimester and with that happy announcement, I am also announcing that this will be my last “Pregnancy Fitness in Nashville” review to bring you. I am so grateful that I have been able to no only keep active during this second pregnancy, but that I’ve been able to take you on this fitness journey with me. Over the last 8 months I have had the pleasure of trying a DanceFix class the Nashville Ballet, prenatal yoga at Blooma Nashville, a spin class at Cyclebar in Cool Springs, Pilates at Simply Balanced, a super fun barre class at Cardio Barre and a unique spin on Pilates at Studio Nova. Now, I get to share something very different from these group fitness classes. My final pregnancy fitness in Nashville review is with a personal trainer. Allow me to introduce you Holly Myers from Built by Holly.
I have tried numerous exercise classes, even prior to these prenatal reviews. In fact, I used to teach group exercise and even trained new gym members at a local gym through college. However, I have never actually has a real session with a personal trainer. Clearly, I was thrilled to finally get the chance!
I met Holly last summer while taking a fitness class at SUP Nashville (Stand-Up Paddleboarding). She was my instructor and I LOVED her and her class. Not only is she in phenomenal shape, but she was a great teacher who really connected with us and gave us a fantastic workout on the water. (P.S. If you haven’t tried paddleboarding yet, it’s a must!) By the end of class I learned that Holly was a personal trainer. I was instantly interested, and also started following her on Instagram because she posts tons of great exercise moves. Fast forward about 9 months and here I am, finally getting a session from Holly!
Holly spent a full 60 minute session with me in a nice gym on the first floor of some fancy lofts in Germantown. In that one-hour, she showed me SO many great moves to accommodate, stretch and strengthen my pregnant body. We touched on every muscle group, did some light cardio, stretched and even discussed lots of nutritional tips. She was very careful to make sure nothing was too uncomfortable or unsafe, and quick to offer me modifications if they were needed, and even how to modify as I grow even bigger. There’s was no doubt that I was working with a professional!
One characteristic that makes Holly a great trainer is that she is personable and easy to talk to, while simultaneously making you sweat. Having great conversation is a really nice way for the time to pass during what could otherwise be a boring workout. Besides being easy to chat with, she is a motivator! Something you should know about Holly is that helping people get healthy is her passion. She actually quit a great corporate 9-5 job in order to pursue her dreams, find happiness and really follow her desires. See, you like her already don’t you?
I left our session feeling successful. I felt stronger, smarter and like I’d just made a new friend. Holly provided me with tools to keep on the right track to good health and the confidence to keep it up. I was a little sore the next day, in a good way, but I didn’t leave feeling over-exerted or too tired to continue my day. In fact, I felt energized and ready to take on the daily challenges and tasks that always lay ahead.
Holly (Built by Holly) was everything I hope she’d be for my first personal training experience. Having a one-on-one lesson as opposed to a group class is certainly different, but equally as effective. With my group fitness classes I enjoyed the positive environment, energy from the other people, the music and fun moves. With a personal trainer, I enjoyed having all the attention, knowing that I was doing everything correctly and having a routine specially carved out for me and my situation. It’s something I’d recommend to any and every one.
Also, don’t forget to be safe and smart when it comes to pregnancy and working out!
