You may or may not have heard of the Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation. If you haven’t, GBBF is a program created in 2004 to provide access to Imagination Library books for children. You can enroll your child to receive free books each month from the time they are born until they are 5 years old. You can enroll at any time- it doesn’t have to be right when they are born. There is no cost, regardless of income and every child of age is open to enroll.
The books are selected by a committee of childhood education experts. You won’t be disappointed in the books you get. We’ve gotten awesome books like- Llama Llama Red Pajama, The Little Engine That Could, and The Mine-o-saur. The books sent are based on age, so every month is a different book. Just think, by the time your child is 5 they could have a 60-book library!
Personally, getting a new book in the mail reignites my kids’ desire to read each month. I really think your kids will enjoy it, too.
To celebrate their 10th year, GBBF is going on a bus tour! They’ll be stopping in cities all across Tennessee and ending here, in Nashville, on September 30th. Each stop will have reading-themeed giveaways, opportunities to enroll, and recognizing volunteers and donors in the community. Make plans to check it out.
If you’re able, you can donate to assist in keep GBBF up and running. As little as $12 covers the cost of a child’s books for a year.
Do you have your child enrolled in Books from Birth? What is your favorite book you’ve received so far?
