East Nashville Kid Friendly Restaurants Round Up

Headed over to the East side? Bringing kids? You’re in good company. East Nashville is a place where parents can still have a social life, even if it looks a little different than your pre kid days (bartender, just disregard the child strapped to me). Pack up your snacks, books and magic bag of distractions and check out these places that are kid and mom friendly.

East Nashville kid-friendly restaurants

East Nashville Kid Friendly Restaurants:

Rosepepper Cantina
East Nashville’s original Mexican restaurant and neighborhood staple

Why it’s great for kiddos

  • Kids menu that includes a side and a drink for an affordable price
  • High chairs
  • Enclosed patio
  • Across the street from Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream

Why moms love it

  • The margaritas (you really need to go here without your kids at some point so you can take full advantage)
  • Fresh Mexican food with plenty of menu options
  • Time it right and you’ll catch it before it picks up for dinner, and you’ll have your food delivered fast

TNM tips

  • It gets really busy on weekend nights, so be prepared for a wait
  • The first round of chips and salsa is on the house; be prepared to pay for an extra order if your kids down the first batch

The Pharmacy
Burgers, brats and a biergarten in the heart of the hood

Why it’s great for kiddos

  • Outdoor seating with a large backyard area with picnic tables and room to play
  • Big portions for small stomachs (you can usually get two meals out of an order)
  • Old school soda shop with milkshakes, floats and specialty sodas
  • Plenty of high chairs

Why moms love it

  • Great burgers and fries with vegetarian options too
  • You can feel like you’re experiencing a hip Nashville hot spot even if you have your kids with you
  • Good beer and drink selection
  • Great place to take out of town guests

TNM tips

  • Living in a cool city means you have to compete with tourists with the same lunch idea as you. The Pharmacy gets really busy on the weekends (line out the door busy). Head over for a late lunch or an early dinner and be prepared to wait a bit for your seat.
  • You will give your cell phone number to call when your table is available, so you can circle the block, listen to music, barter with Cheerios, etc. while you wait
  • Be prepared spend time looking for street parking

Five Points Pizza
New York style pizza in the middle of East Nashville’s business district

Why it’s great for kiddos

  • Pizza, pizza, pizza
  • A free small ball of dough to play with as you wait for your food
  • High chairs
  • A “to go” window where you can purchase by the slice if it’s turning into a not so great night out in public

Why moms love it

  • Great lunch specials on weekdays
  • Delicious selection of specialty pizzas
  • Amazing garlic knots
  • Good craft beer selection

TNM tips

  • Surprise, this place gets really busy on nights and weekends (East Nashville mom problems), but committing to an early lunch or dinner will get you in faster
  • If it gets too crazy, there are a few other pizza places in the neighborhood that you can jump ship for (Pizza Real and Italia are two other favorites)
  • Look for street parking to avoid paying to park in the lot across from the restaurant
  • There’s nothing wrong with a to go order if things get tough

Edley’s Bar-B-Que East
BBQ and sides served up with specialty drinks

Why it’s great for kiddos

  • The fried pickles
  • Kids menu with large portions for cheap
  • Casual atmosphere/walk up to order food
  • Loud enough inside to muffle screaming

Why moms love it

  • The fried pickles
  • Great BBQ and sides selections; fish options available too
  • Fast service
  • Great selection of craft beer and cocktails

TNM tips

  • The fried pickles (they are seriously the best in town)
  • Of all of the places featured in this entry, Edley’s is typically the least crowded and least likely to be invaded with tourists; you can usually get a table without a wait
  • Smoking is allowed on the patio

I love East Nashville not only for the great food, but for the community of parents we have in our neighborhood. Head over to the East side and see plenty of strollers, carriers and kids in tow to all of the hot spots.

One Response to East Nashville Kid Friendly Restaurants Round Up

  1. Pomodoro East would be a great addition to the list. They bring crayons to the table so the kids can color on the butcher paper that covers the tables, they have a fantastic kids menu and always offer free icecream after dinner is finished.
