I have a bad habit of getting professional pictures taken and then never ordering any prints to hang. Or if I do order prints, I never seem to actually frame them and hang them up. In fact, we’ve been in this house for almost 6 months and these are the first pictures I’ve hung. I won’t tell you how long we lived in our old house with no pictures…
So, when I got the opportunity to work with Minted as part of the Savvy Sassy Scouts program, I was inspired to finally hang up my gallery wall! I found this gorgeous print and designed my wall around it.
If the process of designing and hanging a gallery wall sounds daunting, I’ve laid it out for you in 8 simple steps.
Step 1: Design your layout. For this project, I really wanted to keep it simple. I like uniformity. So, I just did a grid with almost all of the same size frames.
Step 2: Measure! I’m a math nut, so I do a lot of weird calculations to make sure I have the right spots. Basically, for a wall like this, you want to start by finding your center and then working from there.
Step 3: Mark it. You can use painters tape to mark where your nails or hooks should go. You can actually use your level on the painters tape to make sure it’s straight and everything. It’s a lot easier to pull up tape and move it than to take nails out of a wall.
Step 4: Stop- hammer time. You can hammer right into the tape if you want, it will tear up around it. I just used nails for these particular frames, but picture hooks may work better for your frames.
Step 5: Pull up your tape.
Step 6: Hang up pictures.
Step 7: Add in the pop. I got this gorgeous print (already framed!) from Minted last month and I knew it would be a great centerpiece for my very plain gallery wall. The blue frame and gold foil print fit in perfectly with my house decor and make an otherwise simple gallery wall seem a little extra special.
Step 8: Admire and definitely post an Instagram picture of it. No seriously, if you have a great gallery wall, we want to see it!
Pretty easy, right? I didn’t even ask my husband for help. :)
If you’re looking for some inspiration to start your gallery wall, definitely check out Minted- we’re obsessed!
