Favorite Advice From Our Moms for Mother’s Day

In honor of Mother’s Day this weekend, we’re sharing a few of The Nashville Mom contributors’ answers to “What is one of the best pieces of advice your mom (or a mother-figure) has given you?” Check out these sweet answers and we’d love for you to share your own answer in the comments!

Of all the advice my mom has given me, the best one related to motherhood is to focus on the present, only worry about the things I can control and be positive. I have a tendency to go down the rabbit hole and drive myself crazy with worry, but my mom always has a way of putting me at ease and reminding me to look at things one day at a time and that I’m strong. On a more fun note, she’s also taught me to celebrate every holiday, make birthdays a big deal and continue family traditions – from favorite recipes to Christmas pajamas to dying Easter eggs. – Erin T.

My mom always tells me to keep my gas filled to at least a quarter tank! If I had listened more often to this advice, it would have saved me quite a few times. I have run out of gas more times than I would like to admit and mainly on road trips. I get so in the zone when I’m driving that if I don’t take action when I can safely make it to the gas station and then I may be too late. -Lindsay D.

My mom has given me tons of advice over the years – from child rearing to work/life balance, from standing up for my beliefs to cooking tips – but since I was a little girl, I always remember her saying that I should use cloth napkins (to save some trees) and keep fresh flowers in my house.  Both tips I try to abide by and also pass on to my girls. –Sarah W.

I wouldn’t say that my mom “gave me this advice” in that she didn’t sit down and say it to me, but I definitely learned it from my mom by watching her. Actions speak louder than words! I see my mom’s passion for people every day- in her job, in her friendships, in everyone she comes into contact with throughout the day. I see how she bends over backwards to service her clients in the best way possible. She takes the time to get to know them. She knows their kids, she knows their story and because she spent that time, she can assist them in ways no one else can. She does the same for her friends. She knows all the details because she cares. Growing up watching that has definitely rubbed off on me. I know I strive to be more like her every day. –Lindsey M.

Here’s to a beautiful, passion-for-people, focus-on-the-present, full-tank, fresh flower-filled Mother’s Day from The Nashville Mom Team!
