Today, one of our moms from Spring Hill is here to share with us. Meredith is a mom of two who just recently moved to the Spring Hill area. She’s been spending the summer exploring all of the fun her new area of town has to offer.
As a mom new to Spring Hill, I am looking for anything cheap, free, kid friendly and somewhere I (and my kids) might meet some new friends. Today we explored the Port Royal Park (splash pad and park) that just opened on Memorial Day.
It’s a really nice splash pad! It was pretty crowded, but it was fenced in and only one side had a gate- which is great! So, if you have a child like my oldest, she would never leave your sight without telling you exactly where she was going, this would not matter to you. However, if you have a child like my second, he is everywhere and I can’t keep an eye on him, so I just kept an eye on the gate!
The splash pad was great for every age. There were little sprinklers for the itty bitty ones, a giant water gun, and several big sprinklers.
This park is not just a water park! It also had an awesome playground! This playground seemed to be geared more towards older kids. There was a great spot with rings and bars for the gymnast at heart. My 5 (almost 6) year old loved it. I didn’t let my 3 year old try, I wasn’t wanting to go to the ER today (Ha!).
Both the Women’s and Men’s bathrooms had changing tables and hooks for your towels. They really were nice considering it’s a public park!
There were plenty of tables and umbrellas. I saw some moms brought their own more comfortable chairs, and picnic lunches.
Don’t forget there is a new Fire Department next door! It’s always fun to stop by, see a fire truck, and say “thank you” to those brave men!
Things to Bring:
- Sunscreen
- Drinks/snacks/lunch
- Towels
- I would recommend a water shoe (the concrete can get hot and slippery)
- Change of clothes
Be ready for your kids to be exhausted after a morning at the splash pad or park!
