Sarah’s 5 – Unique Date Night Ideas in Nashville (& A Giveaway)

Hello! I’m Sarah and I’m the new Managing Editor here at The Nashville Mom. I’m starting a new series called Sarah’s 5 where I will share 5 things I love, learned or that simply made me laugh. With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, I thought I’d start by sharing some of my favorite date night spots. Usually on date nights, my husband Brad and I love to check out a favorite Nashville restaurant or see a movie we’ve been itching to catch. Occasionally, however, we like to shake things up on our date nights and try something totally different and unique. Whether you want to try something athletic, artistic…or you want to work out your trivia skills with the one you love, check out my 5 unique date night ideas in Nashville for your next night out! (And click through to the end for a chance to win your own unique date night out).

1. For the athletic couple

Climb Nashville – Brad and I love to take our kids climbing at this local gym, but about a year ago, we got a sitter and the two of us went ALONE to Climb Nashville and we had a blast. We were each able to climb to our heart’s content (or our arms gave out) – encouraging and challenging each other along the way. Afterwards, we grabbed some dinner and drinks at M.L. Rose down the street and went home happy and completely exhausted.

 2. For the couple who loves to cook

The Chef & I Cooking Classes – Brad and I both love to cook and before we had kids, we would try new recipes and cook new creations together all of the time. But managing kids …plus work … & life means we don’t have a lot of time to enjoy creative cooking these days, especially together. The Chef & I is a new-to-me company that has a calendar full of great cooking classes. Plus, many of the classes are geared towards couples such as Cooking for Two and The Valentine’s Day Menu. Turn up the heat with your love and learn to cook something fabulous together.

3. For the creative couple

Painting with A Twist (PWAT) – I recently had the opportunity to attend a Painting with A Twist class in the newly opened venue on Charlotte Ave. and I can’t wait to go back with my husband for a really fun date night. PWAT provides the canvas, paint, brushes and instructions on a specific painting (find a class on their calendar that fits your taste and schedule) – they also provide wine openers, ice and cups – for you to bring your own beverage. They welcome novice and experienced painters to let loose and get creative. Sip wine with the one you love while creating a masterpiece!

4. For the trivia-loving couple

Nashville Trivia Guys – Live trivia is popping up all over Nashville and it’s a fun, social escape for parents to hang out while working together to answer trivia questions (and win prizes!). Plus, the trivia questions are a great distraction from spending the entire evening talking about your kids! My favorite live trivia is the Nashville Trivia Guys at Neighbors in Sylvan Park on Wednesday nights at 7 PM. If you follow them on Facebook or Instagram you can get a clue for the night’s trivia, too. Enjoy dinner and drinks while combining your partner’s random geography skills with your 80s movie knowledge for a really fun kid-free night.

5. For the couple whose babysitter bailed

Whole Foods Market Takeout (& Valentines Bundle) – On those nights when the babysitter bails or you simply don’t have the budget for a night out AND a sitter, Whole Foods Market in Green Hills has a “date-night worthy” takeout menu that will make you swoon. Brad and I love to utilize this service by putting our kids to bed, picking up something special like Whole Foods’ seared salmon or bourbon grilled steak with sides and dessert, opening a bottle of wine and enjoying a kid-free romantic night in our own home. Whole Foods is also offering their first ever Valentine’s Day Bundle Deal on February 10-14: For $100, the Bundle includes a choice of 3 entrees, 2 bottles of wine, 2 pieces of cheese cake and 2 dozen roses ($75 on Sunday because it won’t include wine). To take advantage of this deal, simply head to Whole Foods Market in Green Hills or Franklin between Feb. 10-14 or order online in Green Hills here and Franklin here… and let Whole Foods know you heard about it at The Nashville Mom! Then, put the kids to bed early and enjoy a delicious romantic dinner in your own home.

Giveaway: To make it easier for you to try one of these unique date nights (and just in time for Valentine’s Day), Painting With A Twist on Charlotte Ave. has generously offered a couples gift certificate for 2 for you and your date to paint the town together, literally. Simply comment here sharing one of your favorite local date night spots by Sunday, February 5 for a chance to win. I will randomly choose a winner on February 6. The gift certificate must be redeemed at the PWAT Charlotte Ave. location. Good luck!

Update: This Giveaway is closed. Congratulations to Rachel J!

  1. There are so many great date night spots in Nashville! I love taking a walk around riverfront, seeing a concert at Bridgestone, or grabbing dinner and drinks in the Gulch. Thanks for the awesome giveaway!

  2. Awesome list, Sarah! Thanks for the ideas. When we want a low-key night for just the two of us, we find we keep going back to The Centennial in The Nations neighborhood. It’s mellow, they have great beer on tap, the service is awesome, and we really like their creative pub fare. The Centennial has booths just for two people – perfect for a date night.

  3. We love going to the farmers market downtown! We make it a goal to try a different restaurant/stand each time, and always end with Jeni’s ice cream. So many great choices.

  4. Great list. We keep a list of restaurants in Nashville we’ve never been to – and we pick a new restaurant every time we go on a date!

  5. Even though we’ve been a bunch, we’ve loved going to Nama’s Sushi on half price sushi and happy hour days, Monday and Thursday! We sit and talk for hours :)

  6. My husband and I like to go miniature golfing at least once a year – just the two of us. We laugh, get competitive, laugh again! And then, we finish off the night with some air hockey and a fun dinner.

  7. My husband and I are new to Nashville but to mix it up (and because of his work schedule) we like to have day dates as well as date nights. We love starting at Pancake Pantry for brunch then taking a leisurely stroll around popping into the local shops and boutiques in the area! <3

  8. Wee love going to the Southern…we always feel like we’ve traveled to one of our favorite big cities. The vibe is the best!

  9. This is a great list! My husband and I love having date nights or days! Our favorite day date is going for a walk at Centennial Park and then grabbing a quick bite at Tin Angel. A perfect date night for us is a Nashville Predators game and grabbing a drink at Jackelope brewery before. Love all the ideas from others! Thanks!

  10. The Chef and I cooking classes are wonderful, solo, duo or family fun for all. And if you want the best original food in Nashville with a great experience then head over to the chef’s kitchen seating for a great meal from Chef Chris and crew.
