Our family loves to be active! We enjoy going to sporting events, hiking, swimming, playing at the park and generally being outside. So, when winter rolls around, we tend to throw on the brakes. I’ll admit that I can get a little grumpy in the cold, which I feel like it is freezing outside if it is below 70 degrees.(Southerner to the core!) However, this year I’m vowing to bundle up and make the most of the season! If you’re like me and would rather bask in the summer sun year round, I’ve got a plan for you to warm up to winter!
- Winter Wear: Go through your family’s cold weather gear and make sure you have the necessities- hats, gloves, scarves, a warm hoodie, coat and fuzzy socks. When you have the proper gear, you won’t be quite as cold. Someone just had to have the Frozen hat and glove set but I thought this one was pretty sweet!
- Savor the Season: The beauty of winter is celebrating holidays, enjoying snow and cozy nights by the fire. Our family loves gathering with friends or watching movies on our outdoor projector. We wanted to find a way to make being outside in the cold temperatures more enjoyable. This year for Christmas, we decided to invest in a fire pit for the family. This has been the best thing ever! Our kids LOVE making “s’mores”, setting up our hammock and piling blankets and pillows on top! It’s like we are camping but with the convenience of an indoor restroom and hot showers on the other side of the door!
- Don’t be afraid to Hibernate: It’s okay to stay inside in your pajamas! A few favorite indoor activities are playing games, sipping hot chocolate with a mountain of marshmallows, watching Christmas Vacation, lighting your favorite candle and reading a book! My dog has the right idea, find a cozy spot and settle in for the day!
