The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum invites you to online family programs, starting this week!
Every Wednesday at 3:30 p.m., join a museum educator on FieldTripZoom for fun, interactive workshops relating to country music history.
Free with pre-registration on the web platform FieldTripZoom, no download needed. Guardians are required to be present with participants under thirteen years old. By signing up for this program, you are confirming that a guardian will be present with youth under thirteen. An educator will send a Field Trip Zoom invitation to you by 11:00 a.m. the morning of the program. Registration closes 24 hours before program time, and accommodations are guaranteed for museum members. Please reach out to [email protected] if you have any questions.

May, 20, 2020 | 3:30 PM – 4:00 PM CT: Shel Silverstein’s Playful Poetry
Shel Silverstein is most famous for writing and illustrating children’s books, but did you know he also wrote songs that were recorded by many outlaw country musicians? Join a museum educator on FieldTripZoom to explore the exhibit Outlaws and Armadillos: Country’s Roaring ’70s and listen to poems from Silverstein’s collection A Light in the Attic. Inspired by his whimsical writing, draw an illustration along with visual artist Britt McDermott and learn to write a Silverstein-style poem. Recommended for ages five to eleven with guardian, but all are welcome. Guardian is required to be present for children under thirteen.

May 27, 2020 | 3:30 PM – 4:00 PM: One Sheet Songwriting Journal
Many songwriters keep a notebook on hand to jot down ideas. Join a museum educator on FieldTripZoom to learn about the influential songwriting duo Boudleaux and Felice Bryant—responsible for penning “Rocky Top,” “Bye Bye Love,” and many other classics—and view pages from their songwriting ledgers. Then, learn how to make your own pocket-sized journal using only one sheet of paper. What new ideas will fill your book? Recommended for ages seven and up with guardian, but all are welcome. Guardian is required to be present for children under thirteen. Presented in support of the exhibit We Could: The Songwriting Artistry of Boudleaux and Felice Bryant.

June 3, 2020 | 3:30 PM – 4:00 PM CT: Ryman Auditorium Stained Glass Window Sensory Play
Join a museum educator on FieldTripZoom to learn all about Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium and its importance to country music history. Inspired by the Ryman’s famous stained glass windows, design stained glass windows of your own. Use shaving cream and food coloring to create beautiful, washable painted windows right at home. First, create marbled stained glass paper to hang in a window. Next, learn how to safely and temporarily paint your windows to turn your home into the Ryman. Get ready for sensational sensory play. Recommended for ages four to ten with guardian, but all are welcome. Guardian is required to be present for children under thirteen.

Materials needed for marbled paper:
- White paper (We will be using cardstock and parchment paper to show different effects, but many kinds of paper will work.)
- Shaving cream
- Food coloring
- Toothpick or similar object to swirl designs (fingers work too!)
- Ruler or similar object to scrape off shaving cream

- Food coloring
- Container for paint (We will be using a muffin tin.)
