Valentine’s has always been one of my favorite holidays-I adored taking the little paper Valentine cards to school and exchanging these! I treasured those and still do (sadly my kids are outgrowing exchanging cards)! I love the pinks and reds, the hearts and sweet decorations! This year, I decided to host my daughter and her girlfriends from school to a Galentine’s Party! At this stage, it is more important than ever to help her try to build strong friendships. She told me that I “overdid” it but I was just so excited!
The Food
I underestimated how much food 23 5th grade girls can eat! We had a heart shaped waffle bar with toppings and sprinkles, Chick-fil-a minis, fruit, cheese/crackers, bacon and blueberry muffins! Even with all of this, I ended up making several bags of popcorn, baking cookies that I had and rading our pantry for more snacks! Note to self: next time have more food!
The Activities
I knew I needed some activities to keep these ladies entertained! I found the most adorable little Valentines ceramics for them to paint, so had them channel our inner For Pete’s Sake Pottery! We did a little bloom bar with vintage style vases where they made their own bouquets! I was surprised but they were super into the flowers using all the ones I’d got for them as well as two arrangements I had for decorations! We also had bead bracelet making and card stations! Even though I thought I’d planned a lot-ha, they were finished with most of this in the first 45 minutes! But we improvised and they played hide and seek and we watched a movie!
I wanted to incorporate a charitable aspect to the party so had guests bring items to fill Ronald McDonald House’s wish list! So many generous donations! I can’t wait to take these over!
It was a fun and LOUD few hours with these girls! I overhead some funny things like “We’re Being Too Bossy”, “Boys Are Weird!”….”You Got That Right” and of course, heard about a few crushes. I was on the couch for the remainder of the day but loved every minute of having these girls over!
I hope we can make this an annual event!
