I’m not sure I’ve ever spent any time thinking about salt. It’s just one of those spices we take for granted. It’s there and we use it if we want. The recipe calls for a pinch of salt, so we just throw it in. But, did you know that the type of salt you use can make a huge difference in your dish?
Yep, mind blown.
This past Monday, I was able to join some other friends at the Morton Salt’s Next Door Chef: Nashville event. The whole experience was amazing. Morton Salt transforms a home into an actual restaurant for a day. For the Nashville event, Travis and Claire turned their backyard into a restaurant. A notable Nashville chef taught Travis how to make an amazing meal using different types of salt. I loved hearing about using Morton Kosher and Sea Salt in the dishes. I know most of us probably just grab regular table salt when we cook and the different varieties can really spice up a dish. You can definitely wow the family when you trade out table salt for Morton’s Kosher or Sea Salt!
I’ll be sharing more about the salt and the delicious dishes we were served at the restaurant later, but I wanted to go ahead and share some great salt tips as we all get ready for holiday cooking!
Salt Tip 1
Morton Kosher Salt can add a gourmet touch to the dish. It’s easy to control for perfectly seasoned food. That’s why many chefs prefer to use it.
Salt Tip 2
Morton Coarse Sea Salt’s larger crystals provide a great contrasting texture to your dish. It’s an artistic “pop” your guests will be able to see and taste.
Salt Tip 3
Morton Fine Sea Salt still has that great pop but it is fine enough to blend in while cooking. The finer crystals dissolve quickly which makes it great for marinades, soups, sauces, and dressings.
I have to tell you, I’m already excited to change up my famous peanut butter cookie recipe. I normally add in a pinch of table salt, but I think some Morton Sea Salt sprinkled on top will really bring out some different flavors and add a little crunch. How great to be able to make my cookies a bit more memorable just in time for holiday parties!
