The response we got from our Picky Eaters 101 post was “MORE PLEASE!” So, we’re guessing that our kids aren’t the only picky eaters out there. :)
We recently discovered a product to help with the picky eating dilemma- Rounded Plate.
Rounded Plate is sort of a game that aids in helping kids start to eat better. Not just veggies, but drink more water, and develop good relationships with food overall.
How to play:
Hang your scoreboard
Determine which level to use (there is a guide to help you)
Eat your meals and track them with the daily sheet
Get stickers
Celebrate with bonus prizes!
It really is that simple. :)
The incentive for kids to eat better comes from the daily and weekly bonuses. Each day that the kids (and you) complete, you put a Bonus sticker on the scoreboard. Then, when the week is over, if everyone has 6 out of 7 of their stickers for the week, you get to have the weekly bonus. It’s between you and the kids to determine what that bonus could be. My son really loves to get dollars, so, we used money and then a trip to the store to buy something as our bonus.
Our results: This program is designed for ages 4+, so our son is a little bit young, but we did it anyway. It took a little while to catch on, but it finally did. He’s more open to trying different foods and there is so much less fighting each night at dinner. I am loving not having to cook 3 different meals each night. We may keep it going longer than the 21 days to just keep it reinforced. It’s also a great visual reminder for mom and dad to make better food choices!
