Have you seen those YouTube families who travel the world full-time? My family is obsessed with The Sailing Family. I don’t know that I could commit to living on a boat full-time but my family is trying to convince me!
Both of my kids are begging me to homeschool them so that we can be more adventurous. My husband is totally on board too! Even though I’m a former elementary teacher, I just don’t feel that I’m the right person to teach my children. (We learned this the hard way during quarantine.)
I told them that I would at least consider and look into some options. After some research, I have been impressed with what I’ve learned about Connections Academy – free online public school for grades K-12, with schools in 29 states.
I think we can all agree that after the pandemic, we see the benefits and flexibility of online learning. Connections Academy’s curriculum is specifically designed for the virtual environment and tailored to meet the unique goals and abilities of students. I was pleased to see that the curriculum meets or exceeds national and state standards. The school also goes beyond academics to focus on social and emotional learning to make sure students are prepared for the real world. As a mom, it is so important to me to make sure my children’s learning needs are addressed individually, as we all learn so differently.
Great teachers are the foundation of Connections Academy, which is what excites me most as I know I won’t be doing this alone. Parents play the role of “Learning Coach,” and have a front-row seat to their child’s education. Parents and teachers are very much a team, working closely together. Regular check-ins between teachers, students and Learning Coaches help assess a student’s growth plan throughout the year. My children hear me say often that we are all in this together and have to work as a team that applies to their education as well.
Connections Academy offers online K-12 school for all kinds of students: inclusive, safe, and committed to giving each student the support they need to learn their best and achieve their goals.
Between my anxiety of my child starting middle school and the desire to travel more, I’m strongly considering online school. Now, where would we go first?
