When someone says “Thanksgiving” what comes to mind? Turkey, family, football, a day of really thinking about what you are thankful for, the Macy’s parade…yes, all of the above! If you live in Nashville or the surrounding areas, one other thing more than likely comes to mind: The Boulevard Bolt!
The Boulevard Bolt is a 5 mile run/walk race that happens every Thanksgiving morning in Belle Meade. This year is the 22nd year and I’m sure it will be the biggest turn out yet. Last year there were more than 8,500 participants which makes this race one of the largest 5 mile races in the country!
This race is just flat out fun. What a great way to start your Thanksgiving! Everyone wears the biggest smile, neighbors line the course and cheer all the participants on, and there are even runners/walkers that dress up like turkeys and pilgrims! The Boulevard Bolt gives back to the community as well. The funds that are raised through sponsors, generous individuals, and fees to participate are all given to the homeless community in Nashville.
If you aren’t a runner, that’s ok! There are lots of walkers who walk the 5 mile course. The race goes up one side of Belle Meade Boulevard and then back down the other side. It’s relatively flat the whole way. If you feel like starting your Thanksgiving morning off with a major calorie burn or are looking for a new tradition to start with your friends or family, consider participating in the Boulevard Bolt this year!
