Being a mom is busy, but being a mom a few weeks before moving day can seem almost impossible! Here at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, we understand that every spare moment and dollar is sacred when it comes to raising little ones, so we’re sharing a few pointers to help prepare for your big moving day as easily and inexpensively as possible. Don’t forget to download our handy checklist at the end of the post!

6 Tips for a Smooth Move

1) Book Early

During this time of year, our schedule books up fast, especially towards the end of the month. To ensure you get that perfect move day, contact us at least two weeks in advance. If you’re on a budget, look into booking your move for a weekday to get the best hourly rates.

2) Organize and Donate

One of the biggest leaps you can make into a successful move is going through your things to organize and remove the items you no longer need. Take 2-3 hours each week before the move to go through closets and drawers. This minimizes the items that have to be moved (and, in turn, the cost of your move) and creates a speedier process when you are setting up your new home. Also, look into donating unwanted clothes to a local shelter or non-profit to help those in need in your community.

3) Pack and Centralize

Time is of the essence, whether you are a mom to an infant or have three little rascals running around. Families can make moving a quicker process by packing, labeling, and centralizing all of their boxes before the move. Have all of your small items and boxes in one room helps our movers work faster, and labeling boxes will allow our movers to quickly be able to correctly place your items in your new home. Also, try using a different color of label or permanent marker to designate the boxes that belong to each room in your new home so the movers can save time unloading the truck. This is an immense time and money saver!

4) Disassemble

Many pieces of furniture need disassembling prior to the move. Our movers are more than happy to do this step for you; however, if you can easily take apart your bed frames, dining table, and other large pieces before the movers arrive, we can shave some more time and money off your final bill. Once again, placing all the pieces of the disassembled furniture in a centralized location will not only save packing time for our movers, but will also keep you on budget.

5) Minimize Your Work

There are a few tricks you can use to cut down on the prep work for your move. First, don’t worry about taking clothes out of your drawers! We’re able to pad and wrap your drawers like any other piece of furniture; however, make sure there aren’t any hard or fragile items that may break during the drive to your new home. Next, collect the screws from each disassembled piece of furniture into individual Ziploc-style plastic bags, and tape the bags to the corresponding pieces of furniture so they won’t get lost when you go to reassemble. Finally, put together a “Day-of-Move” box that you’ll keep in your personal vehicle full of things you’ll need right away, such as clothes, medicine, cleaning supplies, and toiletries for the first couple of days in your new home This way, you won’t have to dig through all of your boxes to find those essentials right after completing a tiring move.

5) Have Fun

Don’t let the stresses of relocating get you worn down. We’re trained professional movers, and it’s our job to give you time to enjoy the excitement of moving into the next chapter of your life. Additional services we can provide, such as packing and staging, will help you get set up in your new space even faster and with less headaches. Keep calm and let us help move you forward!

What should you know about your moving company before booking with them?
