We escaped to the North Carolina mountains for a quick kid-free weekend! My superpower in life is learning about fun places to go and then convincing Seth to take me! I’d read about High Hampton for years and decided to check out this beautiful and historic Cashiers resort!
High Hampton is an over 100 year old rustic yet modern property with 1,400 acres that has been renovated in the last several years. We were immediately stunned with the gorgeous lakeside views of Rock Mountain!
Hampton Lake is a swimmable lake with plenty of fish to catch! There’s also a boat house with complimentary kayaks! The Boat House also have a small sandy “beach” area for littles!
There’s also a sparkling pool, hot tub, outdoor game and Mitch’s to grab a snack or poolside drink.
We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day to be on the water! I didn’t want it to end!
Every step was a breath of fresh air that felt like a step back into a quieter place in time.
I think we said “it’s so peaceful” hundreds of times during the weekend!
One of the highlights of the weekend was the dining experience. High Hampton’s Dining Hall, Halstead House and Golf Course all had delicious choices. The dining hall treated us to specialty breads with each meal (yes, please) like apple cinnamon bread, foccaia and fresh dinner rolls. The staff went over and above with excellent service.
The desserts were amazing! I really wanted all of them! We shared their famous coconut cake (and I may have brought a piece home with me) and the peach pecan sundae! Top notch!
The original owner of the property, Dr. William Halstead planted a dahlia garden for his wife in the early 1900’s. He established the original garden and searched the world to enhance his collection of flowers. One species is even reported to have cost $1500 (at a time when cars were on average around $500)
As someone who adores flowers, I loved walking through the dahlia garden and dreaming of planting my own next spring.
Seth played 18 holes and said the course was beautiful!
We enjoyed stopping by the history center to learn more about High Hampton’s heritage and longstanding traditions!
Their postcard collection was so intriguing to me someone who loves history! I soaked in the written correspondence from so many decades ago.
We stayed in the Lodge Cottage (circa 1900 and 1925). Lodge Cottage is one of the earliest buildings that was originally the carriage house of Caroline Hampton Halstead. It was converted for a guest house and sheathed in chestnut bark. Our room was so cozy and had everything we needed!
I loved the nostalgic infused around the property with old-fashioned games, rocking chairs and the quaint atmosphere. He may dispute me saying this but I am the proud winner of a round of checkers!
These lounge chairs found me all Saturday afternoon while Seth read! I soaked in the sunshine, fresh air and read my book.
It was truly such a special weekend in High Hampton. Seth spotted an osprey on his way to the golf course and saw it a few other times throughout our stay. This place seems like it’s out of a storybook and I hope to make another visit one day.
