Saturday, Nov. 28 – Holiday Movies
Step into the big screen and explore the science behind some of your favorite holiday movies such as Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, A Christmas Story, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Home Alone. Bring your whole family… we triple dog dare you!
Saturday, Dec. 5 – Global Celebrations
Have you ever wondered how countries around the world celebrate the holiday season? Brush up on your geography and join us for a celebration of global proportions. Learn the traditions and customs of other cultures and enjoy performances by local groups with international heritage!
Saturday, Dec. 12 – Gifts, Gadgets & Games
We’re having a do-it-yourself toy extravaganza! Come make your own toys to take home, including catapults, hovercrafts and paper airplanes, while discovering the technology that makes them work.
Saturday, Dec. 19 – Northern Lights & Holiday Brights
The Aurora Borealis is a natural phenomenon that inspires storytellers, artists and scientists alike. Come learn about the “how” and “why” of these brilliant colors shining across the night sky and discover how humans have captured the aurora in our twinkling holiday lights.
Sunday, Dec. 20 – Winter Wookieeland
The Force is strong with this one… the electromagnetic force, that is! In this out-of-this-world day, use electromagnetism to move objects, watch droids scurry around, build your own hover vehicle, harness the power of the Dark Side to unleash electricity from your fingers, and more!
Monday, Dec. 21 – Planes, Trains & Automobiles: Exploring Travel
Traveling and holidays go hand-in-hand. In fact, it’s estimated that 98.6 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home during the holiday season. Learn about the machines that make holiday travel possible with car-building challenges, aerodynamic experiments and an exploration into progressive ways to travel.
Tuesday, Dec. 22 – Reindeer Games
Gather the family and get ready for a day filled with games! Test your skills on the high seas in a giant game of battleship, help construct a real-world Minecraft city, play detective in Clue, and try not to make the tower fall in a large-scale game of Jenga!
Wednesday, Dec. 23 – The Do, Re, Mis of the Holidays
From the ‘Do Re Mis’ to the ‘Fa La Las,’ make plans to experience the science of sound during this musical day! Enjoy performances from local choirs and bands, hear the difference between acoustic, analog and synthetic sounds, learn about vinyl cutting and more.
Monday, Dec. 28 – Surviving Wild Winters
Some animals are built to survive extremely cold winters, but humans are not! Enjoy a day exploring how to survive in the tundra. Learn how different species deal with the cold, observe endothermic and exothermic chemical reactions, and try your hand at some winter survival skills.
Tuesday, Dec. 29 – Dream a Little Dream
Visions of sugar plum fairies are dancing around the Science Center! Discover what happens to your brain while you sleep, craft your very own dream catcher, learn about hibernation and more!
Wednesday, Dec. 30 – Food Chemis-tree
Does your holiday celebration typically involve stretchy pants for maximum food-potential? Well, we’ve got a fun day in store for you! Discover the chemistry in your food with protein testing, iron detection, energy production and more!
Thursday, Dec. 31 – Happy NOON Year!
What 12 Days of Science celebration would be complete without a countdown to the NOON year?! Join us for a day filled with party blowers, resolutions and – of course – everyone’s favorite streamer celebration to kick off the “new” year!
